Description:
As a boy I used to go to our little olive grove with my grandfather where my love for olives awoke. I have always been fascinated by her slow growth, her beauty and the gift she gives us after hard work. Until 1997, we cultivated only 50 olive trees between 300 and 400 years old. When my grandfather got sick our little plantation no longer had anyone to cultivate.
So, while my peers were collecting pictures of football players and riding around on bikes, I had a completely different hobby. My only goal was to get to know this beautiful tree down to the smallest detail and make an extra virgin olive oil that will delight the whole family.
It was certainly not easy at first. When you’re 14 and want to do something, everyone thinks puberty has hit you in the head, but my family quickly recognized my passion for olives and jumped in to help. That hobby later marked my life and grew into our family business. I knew that enthusiasm and love were not enough. Along with them, constant improvement and learning are needed. Thus, in parallel with my work on the farm, I graduated from the Agricultural School in Poreč, and after that I enrolled at the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb. All this accumulated knowledge has resulted in the introduction of new agro-ecological technologies and measures on our economy. It certainly paid off, and the best proof is the large number of international awards we have won for the quality of our extra virgin olive oil.
The olive tree is a tree that needs to bear fruit for a very long time, so only today can we see the results of what started in 1997. To date, we have planted 7,500 olive trees, mostly indigenous varieties, and we are cooperating with several subcontractors from the area who cultivate another 3,000 trees. Our entire production is under certified environmental supervision. We are proud that our extra virgin olive oil today has ecological certification, and certification of authenticity, which guarantees that it is Istrian extra virgin olive oil from 100% organic cultivation. Today, in a world of globalization and large companies, you often cannot know who guarantees you the quality of a particular product. With our extra virgin olive oil, it is us – the whole Chiavalon family, who with their hard work, sacrifices and their name guarantees that the highest quality and most delicious extra virgin olive oil you have ever tasted will reach your hands. From 2000 until today, our extra virgin olive oils have received numerous awards.
