Description:
13 years ago the Oklen family decided to grow lavender, the neighbors were horrified. Accustomed to olives and vines, in the village they marveled at the Oklens for deciding to grow “grass, weeds.” Sandra, together with her husband Đanina and three children, daughters Mikel and Melania and son Massimo, has been growing lavender and olives for years.
Oklenovi started in 2000 with five thousand lavender bushes, and today, with a huge effort and constant improvement of production, that number has grown to 26 thousand bushes and 1200 olive trees. At the time of harvest, there is no idle time on the Oklenov estate, during the month of harvest, lavender is dried and essential oil is prepared at the same time during breaks. – As we are a small factory without a roof, we depend on the weather. Harvest begins in July, usually around July 7th.
From cultivated lavender they produce fragrant bags with lavender flower and essential oil. And what shape the bag will be depends on Sandra’s inspiration. She is just as skilled at sewing as she is at growing lavender. The Oklen family has already started producing soaps, shampoos and aroma therapy lines from their organically grown lavender. They produce extra virgin olive oil, by cold pressing. and by drying half a crop of lavender flower full bags. Their property is regularly visited by tourists.
